While working in the lumber camps of Wisconsin, Robert Lewis King learned of untouched prairie land available in the Dakota Territory. In 1878, he rode a train to Canby, MN and then walked 25 miles to a piece of land a mile into current day Brookings County, SD in which he had scouted out on a previous trip. After staking the 160 acre parcel, he and another homesteader walked 80 miles to Sioux Falls to file the homestead claim. Today, the 4th and 5th generation of the King Family work and live on that same ground which has grown to include 1600 acres of corn and soybeans. In 2019, KING-AG was established as a family business to independently offer chemical, seed, and livestock products to customers in East River South Dakota and Western Minnesota. Partnerships with Farmers Business Network, Helena Agri-Enterprises, and Profectus Livestock Solutions allows KING-AG to offer top of the line products at a great value.
